64 Km away from Jaisalmer City, Mohangarh Fort is one of the newest Indian palaces—it was finished in 1944. For years, it has been a getaway for the royal family; they used to stay there in order to keep an eye on state affairs and their safety. It's also the perfect evacuation for residents of Jaisalmer during bad weather.
The palace, built of yellow sandstone and decorated with delicate carved screens, balconies and statues, is an architectural delight. The Zenana mahal (Ladies Section) and the Mardana mahal (Mens Section) each feature Italian marble flooring. Large colorful mosaics decorate the walls.
Mohangarh Fort gives opportunity to explore the villages on camel, great armoury halls and the nearby excursion of Indira Gandhi canal, camel and jeep safari, Great Indian Bustard Sanctuary, Loongawala Post at India-Pakistan border and so on.
Come and experience the life and charm of yesteryears in this arid landscape. Bollywood films like "Sarfarosh", "Tashan", and "Mersel" have been filmed here.
